Halitosis, also known as bad breath, can be embarrassing, but it is not always remedied with a simple mouth wash. Bad breath can indicate that there is something else going on in either your oral health or overall health. If you notice yourself having bad breath consistently, it may be time to visit us at Swiss Dental so that we can get to the root of the problem.
Request an AppointmentWhat causes Halitosis?
Bad breath often comes from not properly taking care of your teeth and gums. In many cases when your oral hygiene is lacking, dental problems may develop from the plaque and tartar left on the surface of your teeth. Gum disease and tooth decay are just two examples of oral health complications that can cause bad breath. The odor from rotten food or infected teeth cause bad breath and act as a warning for other conditions that require dental treatment. If left untreated, symptoms can worsen over time.
Bad breath can also be associated with other health conditions such as gastric problems, diabetes, and liver disease.
During your appointment, we will begin by going over proper oral hygiene routines to ensure that your dental health is not compromised by poor brushing or flossing. If these methods do not improve your health, we may prescribe medicated mouthwashes or conduct a comprehensive exam to see if there are any underlying conditions that need treatment.
